The catalog disclosure spells it out: default local mode starts a detached cognee server (uvicorn on 127.0.0.1:8011) plus a per-session close watcher; turns, memory writes and indexed source go to that server and on to your configured LLM provider (OpenAI by default), or to Cognee Cloud / COGNEE_BASE_URL in remote mode; the store lives in ~/.cognee — outside HERMES_HOME, shared across profiles; and cognee sends anonymous usage telemetry unless TELEMETRY_DISABLED=1.
The plugin lives in the cognee-integrations repo's integrations/hermes-agent subdirectory and registers Hermes-proprietary tool and hook interfaces (explicitly declared in the catalog's capabilities). The cognee engine itself is cross-framework, but this integration layer loads only in Hermes.
Risk
This disclosure is a textbook case of a plugin's true reach: seemingly local memory, but in reality a persistent background service, content sent to OpenAI by default, a store in a shared location (one poisoned profile contaminates all), and telemetry on by default.
