Host
Runs any Actor listed on the Apify platform under your Apify account: makes requests to target sites, executes cloud compute tasks, and returns results into the model context. Tasks started via apify_start consume your account balance under Apify's billing — including paid Actor rentals and platform usage fees.
Tools register through the Hermes plugin API, installed by name and pinned commit from the Hermes catalog (capabilities declare the APIFY_API_TOKEN env var). The same Actors on another host require that host's own Apify integration (e.g. an MCP-server build); this plugin package itself is not portable.
Risk
A direct case of an agent that can spend money: an injected agent can repeatedly start expensive paid Actors and the bills are real. Third-party Actors are a double supply chain — Actor code is maintained by community authors, and their outputs (scraped arbitrary web content) are an injection vector. Large-scale scraping of targets may also violate their ToS, with liability landing on your account.
